This packing for a year gig is hard. I'm not sure I'm going to get everything into just the four bags. Anything I don't take gets put into storage or given to charity. Here, look what I've already donated:
Quite an eye opener for me, the consumer extraordinaire. Why do I have so much stuff?
Anyway, here it is, my first blog post, and I'm going to sound stressed. Why? Because I am stressed. Decisions made months ago (and some made a week ago) are now biting me in the butt.
Let us just look at my next three weeks, shall we?
This week I must finish packing up all my things, except the things I need in DC, and the things I'll need the week I'm back in Santa Barbara. Difficult.

Packing isn't all though. I have to clean, put down new shelf paper, get the garbage men to pick up the big items, and mustn't forget the dentist appointment tomorrow. Somewhere in there I need to enjoy my time with Charlie, since I have to leave him with friends for the next year. The cleaning people I've hired are coming on Friday, and the carpet cleaners are coming on Saturday.
Monday next, I'll be on a flight to Washington DC for my five-day Fulbright orientation. That's in a hotel.
Then, two nights at my friend Ted's beachhouse.
Then one night at his actual house.
Then fly back to Santa Barbara, and two last nights in my very clean and very empty house.
After that, a move to Mom's apartment for just Wednesday and Thursday. Why? Because my exchange partner teacher will be moving into my place.
Friday, a friend from New York, one who has not visited for 9 years, decided to come out for my going away party. Problem is, there's nowhere for her to stay, since I'm already out of my house. So... Friday and Saturday, I'm back in a hotel with her.
Sunday at my mother's again.
Monday, because it's easier for her, I have to sleep at my friend's house in LA, since she's taking me to LAX. That's the one thing I really didn't want to do, but since she's the one doing me a favor? I may still talk to her about it.
Once I get to London, I think I'll be passed out for days.

As crazy as it all seems right now, this next year will be the experience of a lifetime! Try to be in the moment!
