Looks like I've lost most of my readers

Guess that's what happens when one posts only once a month, or posts boring items.

I so wish I'd had a camera when I saw that rainbow the other day.  It was during the last period of the day, during the last 10 minutes or so.  My students try to be cool but all of them were pressed up against the window behind my desk (it's the only one that's not at the top of the walls in the room) and making little sounds of awe.  It was a nice way to end the day, even if there was a headache involved.

I'm leaving in a couple of hours for the year 8 PGL trip.  Students call it "Parents Get Lost" but it really stands for Peter Gordon Lawrence, the guy who started these adventure trips.  10 staff, and 92  twelve-year-old kids.

What was I thinking?  I have two weeks off, and even though my two pals are coming next weekend, I could have jetted off to Spain or Greece or Italy... where it's warm... but no.  I volunteered for this.

Just think though, no matter what, I will remember this weekend.  It's a way to get to know the kids in a  way I don't at the school.  We don't have trips like this at home.  Yeah, there's sixth grade camp, but that's about it.  As a teacher, I've not done something like this.

So, next week, I'm going to a wedding, and a going away dinner.  Means I won't be going anywhere too far away.

Made my reservations for return home the other day as well.  It's a little disappointing; my visa was messed up a bit, and I have to be out of the country by the first of August. I'm supposed to have 14 days from the last day of work (the 20th of July), but for some reason only got 10.  Now, I've been told I just have to be out of the country by the first, but I can come back in as a regular tourist.  I'm not so sure about that.  See, my plan was to take a trip after school got out, come back, get packed up and come home. Can you just imagine me coming back from a relaxing week on the coast of Italy and being told I couldn't come back in to England?  I've got five bags of stuff; probably more by the time I leave, so it's not like I can just take it all with me.

Grr...  I go back to La Colina on the 17th of August, so I've got a very short summer this year.  Still have to buy a car, and get back into the swing of Santa Barbara things again too.

Whatever.  It's all good (that's me trying to be positive).

The forecast for the weekend is rain and some snow, if you can believe it.  I bought waterproof pants (bottoms... "pants" here mean underpants), yesterday because it's an outdoor adventure camp.

Pray for mild weather please.

  1. August is still a long way away. It seems like you just got there.

If you are open to suggestions about the trip at the end of your trip: pack the stuff you'll need for a relaxing week on the coast of Italy, ship the rest to the U.S. (might be expensive, I don't know). Take your trip to Italy, and fly directly to the U.S. from there so you'll never have to go back to England. I'm sure there's a catch. This is assuming you can change the reservations you just made, too.

  2. Doug and I are sharing brain cells, I was thinking the same thing.

Always a reader, darling. I have a hard time commenting sometimes though. I don't know what the dealio is. Sometimes the comments just won't go through.

  3. I still read...although your adventures are less amazing without the Wonder Dog! I hope the next few months continue to allow you time to post a little more often, as spring in GB is quite pretty! Thanks for sharing when you have the chance!

  4. Have fun on the PGL trip! How long do they last? We occasionally have some field trip things, but they're for specialized groups and usually through a college or university. We're just finishing our Spring Break here, so we'll be back in school on the first day you're off.

Hope you enjoyed the PGL trip- sounds like fun to me.
